Arnhem is the capital of the province Gelderland in the eastern part of Holland. The city is situated on the river Rhine.
The city was founded in 1233 when it received its city rights by the Count of Gelders. Arnhem joined the Seven United Provinces of The Netherlands in 1585.
Arnhem is known for the battle of Arnhem in World War II, in September 1944 fierce fightings took place in Arnhem between the Allied forces and the German occupier.
