| Nijmegen is located in the eastern part of Holland in the province of Gelderland. The city has about 160,000 inhabitants. It is considered to be the first city in the Netherlands. Nijmegen celebrated its 2000th year of existence in 2005. Becasaue the city is loceted on the Waal river, trade flourished and in 1230, it recieved it's city rights by the Roman Emperor Frederick II.
