The Hague is located in the western part of Holland in the province of South Holland. The Hague is also the official seat of government.
Den Haag or 's-Gravenhage (in english: The Hague) was founded in 1248 by William II, the Count of Holland. William built a castle near the North Sea in the western part of The Netherlands where he intended to live. It was never finished, but some parts do still excists and are called the Knights' Hall (in Dutch: Ridderzaal). The Ridderzaal is still used for political events, such as the annual speech from the throne by the Queen.
